| It's always a dog's day | | Posted Thursday, January 26, 2006 10:26:37 AM by Rose Martins | Dogs always have their day. A dog's title of man's best friend is not unfounded. Different breeds of dog sport different characteristics, but one thing is for sure, your dog's loyalty is a given, and if you treat your dog with respect and love, your dog will be yours forever.
Dogs have been trained and used in search and rescue, drug control and as an aid to the blind and physically challenged. It's very important that your dog is well cared for, given the right dog food at the right times of the day and given a warm and sheltered bed or kennel to spend the cold winter day's and nights. You don't want your dog to catch the flu.
A coughing dog is not a great sound. A dog fight is no pretty picture, especially if it involves one of the more vicious and aggressive breeds. A rotweiler has been known to make mince meat out of a poodle or daushund. Dangerous dogs should not be left to wonder freely. They should be housed securely and kept on a leash when taken out for exercise.
Boxers are slobbery and often make a funny sight. They always look grumpy and cross but are actually loveable pets. And most boxers have strong names. Have you ever met a boxer dog named Cuddles? Most boxer dogs have names like Ceasur or King, although Dribble would probably be most appropriate.

| | | UW Milwaukee criticized for use of dogs in medical school | | Posted Tuesday, November 14, 2006 7:31:25 AM by Blog57 Team | | The Wisconsin Humane Society and a group called Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine is protesting the use of live dogs at the Medical College of Wisconsin. The Milwaukee school uses about 60 dogs, usually beagles, in a class for first-year students. After a dog is anesthetized, students study its circulatory system. And, the dog is later euthanized. The Humane Society and Physicians Committee say students can learn just as well from computer models and simulators. Medical College spokesman Dick Katschke says use of live animals provides a learning opportunity that can't be matched. He says the school is considering switching to pigs instead of dogs. But Jeff Rusinow of the Wisconsin Humane Society says it doesn't make sense for 60 dogs to die when there are teaching alternatives.... | |

| | | Antisocial, aggressive dogs should be leashed at parks | | Posted Wednesday, November 08, 2006 3:11:07 PM by Blog57 Team | | Why do people bring antisocial dogs that are aggressive and can't be off leash to the off-leash dog park? Why then too, do they get angry when other dogs run up to their beasts? This baffles me. If your dog doesn't like other dogs, or you don't feel comfortable in an off-leash park, take your dog to one of the dozen or so leashed parks in this city. Spare the rest of us from chasing our friendly dogs across a 10-acre field to save you from your own, stupid, self. -- Erin C. Zysett, Salem .... | |

The breeder, from the St. Helens area, said the impending cold, rainy weather and a building with no heat or running water led to the decision to relinquish the canines so they could find permanent homes. The dogs will receive medical attention from OHS and will be available for adoption on Sunday. There are 18 puppies, eight adults, four small mixed-breed dogs and one female mother with seven three-day-old puppies....

| | | Offensive struggles cost Cubs in loss to Devil Dogs | | Posted Friday, October 13, 2006 11:07:44 AM by Blog57 Team | | The Searcy High School ninth grade Lions had more success helping the Morrilton Devil Dogs advance the ball downfield Thursday night than they did themselves. The result was the Devil Dogs' 16-6 win over Searcy at Lions Stadium. Searcy's offense was stymied by a bigger, faster Morrilton defense that allowed the Lions to run just 13 plays on offense — nine for no gain or negative yardage — in the first half. The Lions (3-4) accrued minus-7 total yards offense in the first half."Morrilton whipped our offensive line all night," Searcy head coach Mike McCain said. "We could not run the football in the second half and that killed us. The offense was not clicking tonight." .... | |

More than a dozen pet owners contend the company collected tens of thousands of dollars but never delivered on promises to get film and television auditions for their pets. "I lost a lot of money," says Rachel Armstrong, owner of Goliath the Rottweiler. Armstrong said she thought her dog had the "cool" factor that would get him into music videos and paid nearly $2,000 to Hollywood Paws LLC for training. All she got was a rejection from The Tyra Banks Show. Attorney Cynthia Mulvihill filed the suit in Superior Court. "Who wouldn't want to be told, 'Hey, your member of the family is beautiful and should be in the movies?' " she asks....
